Dominion Exporters Ltd (Domex) is a New Zealand owned company formed in 1979. Since then, we have been designing and manufacturing sleeping bags in New Zealand and overseas.

Based on Auckland’s North Shore, our philosophy is quite simple – ‘produce a top quality product that the customer wants and will recommend to others’.

We realize that New Zealand’s unique climate requires a diverse range of sleeping bags to meet many conditions. There are not many countries where in the course of one day, you can experience warm, sub–tropical weather, while not far away there are sub–zero conditions in alpine areas.

We appreciate that our customers want choice, and that is what we offer, with a wide range of sleeping bags to meet all conditions and prices.

In 1979 we started production in our Glenfield factory and became instrumental in the evolution of synthetic fibre in sleeping bags. We have registered trademarks on two fibres. Spiro Loft ™ – is a 7 denier hollow fibre and Microcel 3D™ – a non–allergenic micro fibre. The micro fibre allowed us to develop sleeping bags that rival down in the areas of weight and volume but would still give reasonable levels of insulation when wet – which wet down won’t.

Domex have developed down sleeping bags for even the harshest conditions. Some have a differential fill with more down on top where needed and we have manufactured them using a water resistant, windproof but breathable outer shell. We also have a range of the ideal travel sleeping bags. These have tubes of down that go around the bag. This enables the down to be moved around to meet most temperature conditions.

We are constantly re–evaluating new materials and are committed to product development and maintaining a high standard of quality. Even with the advent of imported sleeping bags, a large proportion of the New Zealand public want quality they can rely on and we at Domex will continue to provide that.

In recognition of the quality of our product, we are proud to supply sleeping bags to the armed services of a number of countries in the South Pacific.
