Founded in 1979 and totally New Zealand owned.
Up until May 2007 Domex was one of the last sleeping bag manufacturers still operating in New Zealand.
Thanks to leading edge technology, ongoing research and high standards of quality control, Domex has maintained its position in the market both locally and overseas.
The company’s philosophy is simple – “produce a top quality product that the consumer wants.”
You'll find Domex sleeping bags at leading sporting goods retailers such as Stirling Sports and Rebel Sports.
Domex also supplies bags for the military, Outward Bound, and campervan companies – among many other customers.
Domex has developed its own fibres such as Microcel 3D, 7DXcell™ and Spiro–Loft™ – all independently tested for warmth, water resistance and loft (the ability to resist crushing).
These fibres provide bags that can be compacted into a very small area and are very light weight.
All Domex bags are 100 per cent fibre – no glues or bonding agents are used.
Down sleeping bags are also included in the Domex range. The top of the range Bushlite 900, containing 95 per cent goose down, can handle the harshest conditions.
It has a carry weight of just 1.7kg.
Domex supplied Bushlite 900 sleeping bags for Richard Campbell and Geoff Booth’s One Year Expedition around
New Zealand
. This year-long trek takes in some of
New Zealand
's most rugged terrain and climate conditions.
Richard says, “After one particular night I would have no hesitation in recommending outdoor enthusiasts to purchase a Domex bag.
The night in question we received 290mm of rain in 15 hours with winds close to 160km.
This proved too much for Geoff’s tent and about
4am
a tent pole snapped.
In the driving rain you could actually watch the water run off the Domex bags.
After a change of clothes it was back into the sleeping bags and within a couple of hours the bags were dry.
The Domex bags created immense warmth – when everything else was turning to custard!”
Look for the Domex label in sporting goods and camping stores.
A limited number of seconds and export overruns are available at the factory shop – onsite purchases only.
